Donors
Donations, small and great, are most welcome!
The Captain Cook Memorial Museum is an independent museum, established as a charity (no: 517546). We rely on admission charges, and on donations and legacies, for the running and development of the Museum.
In the past we have been lucky enough to receive public grants, in particular from the Heritage Lottery Fund (the development of our new wing in 2002). Acquisitions are funded by a mixture of private and public money. The help of the National Art Collections Fund and the MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund has been very important. However public funding, particularly for special exhibitions, running costs and smaller development projects, is increasingly hard to come by. We say this simply to underline the significance of our visitors’ and private donors’ support.
