Researchers

We welcome people working in many different fields, whether researching local or maritime history, material for books, or for personal interest

The Museum has original correspondence between Cook and Captains Walker and Hammond, and letters between Joseph Banks, J.R. Forster and Lord Sandwich, First Lord of the Admiralty, together with material on Elizabeth Cook. Some of the most important letters are on display.

The Museum has an important collection of antiquarian travel books generously donated by the late Sir Robert Clark. Access is available by special appointment subject to staff availability and conservation requirements.

Our large collection of botanical prints, Joseph Banks’ Florilegium, is a wonderful source of botanical and historical interest.

Contact our Operations Manager, tel. 01947 601900 or email info@cookmuseumwhitby.co.uk to discuss your interests.
